When I went to San Jose, my friend Adeline and I had to drop off housing applications to this one house downtown near the university. Her boyfriend kept texting her but she was driving, so she couldn’t reply.
She plugs her iPod into her stereo, and usually she plays stuff like Japanese screamo (eh), techno (ehh), and dubstep (ehhhhh). Skipping through a bunch of songs, “Hey There Delilah” started playing, and I immediately started to sing along. However, since her boyfriend was texting her, and since they’re both in a long-distance relationship, I started “free versing” the song in relation to them (since the song is about long-distance love).
After the song I was like ADELINE YOUR BOYFRIEND IS LIKE DELILAH! And we got a good laugh in about it, because she totally agreed. Suddenly, he sent a text and I picked up her phone and told him that he was Delilah from the song. He was like (and I paraphrase) “wtf lmao I’m not a chick” and I reply “OHHH IT’S WHAT YOU DO TO ME, OHHH OHH OHHHHHH”.
Then he replied to her (aka me), “Aww you really are cute sometimes *hug*”
My face kind of fell, and after I read that out loud, Adeline was like “Awww, Shalica!” I knitted my brows and told her that she could take the credit for it, and that it didn’t matter anyway because I was single and totally not lonely and no of course it was alright.
Another day in the life.
